Jean Cathary, a veterinarian in Gallargues, Southern France, often saw dogs suffering from recurring eczema in his clinic. Convinced that these disorders originated in their diet, he prepared a flaky dry food with a view to providing the nutritional balance that dogs require for their health.
The results were immediately visible on the animals and the word of mouth worked marvels, especially among the community of breeders. And so, in 1967, Jean Cathary launched himself into the manufacturing of dry dog food, giving birth to the Royal Canin company in 1968.
Royal Canin’s history has been marked by key stages which have been like so many nutritional advances that have made dog and cat health evolve positively.
